I can't stop thinking about why we feel the need to earn rest, earn joy, earn praise. I have often felt that I am only worthy of those things if I perform first. If I tackle my to do list, if I show up for everyone except myself, if I accomplish. There is great work that needs to be done in my heart to recognize that just by being, I am worthy of rest, joy, and praise. I am spending these last few days of 2022 in my bed, reading, resting, sleeping and acknowledging the blessings it is to be able to do so. May rest, joy and praise enter all of our lives in 2023.
I relate so much! I like to think I’m a pro at rest but really I just rationalize all the ways I work to earn it or just suppress and ignore it, thinking I’m free of it when I’m really not. Thank you for writing out what I rarely give myself space to process. But also - what retreat did you go in and where do I sign up?
