Love this round up! Our summer MVP over here has been nostalgic 90's movies and tv shows at night! My 3 girls are big fans of Full House, It Takes Two, Richie Rich, Matilda, etc! We capped off the summer with caboodles filled with butterfly clips, glitter eye shadow, nail polish, and hand lotion! Long live the 90's girls! (And now I might need to throw in a disposable camera!)

Butterfly clips!!! True story: wore a row of butterfly clips across the top of my head for the 9th grade homecoming dance 🤣 What a throwback.

I’d love to explore the parents, like me, who have only been parents since 2019. What a time, what a time.

And deleting IG!!! 👏👏👏 YAS! I’ve been off all social media all summer and let me tell you… it has been GLORIOUS! And I find myself not wanting to return! Which is great and partly inspired by you and partly inspired by the Erin Loechner’s Opt Out Family.

What a time, indeed. Has it felt like 100 years to you? Or something else entirely? 😅

Expand full comment

Ha! I suppose not 100 years exactly. And I don’t know any different, so everything feels normal to me. But I could imagine the combination of the entrance into the early years of parenthood, world events, and general U.S. culture changes is a LOT.

I love all of this! Definitely getting that game. It looks hilarious. The biggest MVP for me this summer was finding shoes that my kiddo on the spectrum can/will put on without needing socks and without causing tears. The shoes are water tennis shoes from Amazon but they work. There have been ZERO shoe battles all summer. I have no clue what to do for winter but I'll figure it out later.

That is huge! I am relieved for you ❤️

Do you have what do you meme family edition? We also love it! And I love to see my kids’ faces when I make them laugh and they can’t quite believe I’m so funny. 😆

Top this summer for me honestly has been holiday Bible club, the best one surprisingly is an evening one which they collapse into bed from as opposed to the morning one last week when they were hyper all day long after it and it was exhausting.

Also a 9am appointment (as early as you can get) to buy mandatory school shoes - if you’re in the uk and have more than one child to buy for, it’s a game changer. Clark’s is not for the faint hearted!

You have to make an appt to go shoe shopping?! Am I reading that right? I have never heard of such a thing!

I am also addicted to those packing videos!! (Did I talk to you about this already?) They remind me of Mary Poppins and her bag, and I want to be Mary Poppins too!! 😆 We’re flying Ryanair over Labor Day weekend, and I only paid for two carryons. The rest of us are carrying “personal items”, and apparently Ryanair is even more strict than Spirit/ Frontier. We’ll see how it goes! 😬

Oh my gosh please report back. 😅 GOOD LUCK.

Let me just say, power washing is one of my favorite things! I honestly could do it for hours! When we cleaned our back patio a few weekends ago, my husband literally had to take the power washer away from me when I started power washing the bushes because I had run out of things to wash. Something about it is so damn therapeutic.

Tell me about it. I even power washed our cushions!

The zinnias!!! 😍😍😍.

(Also, I’ve been on the market for a new shampoo, so thank you for that rec!!)

Sleep- if you take melatonin your body will stop producing it on its own which isn’t great. I love trazadone- you need your doctor to prescribe it but it works wonders for sleep. Personally I only take it the first 2 nights when traveling or in the day or two before my period comes when I can’t sleep well. You can use it off and on like that and there’s zero side effects for me. No grogginess or brain fog the next morning just a restoring sleep! Good luck!

Kelly! I JUST got a prescription for trazadone like a month ago and I really don't like it ... my entire body relaxes but it does nothing for my MIND, which is the real problem 😅 I was so optimistic when my doctor suggested something I hadn't tried, but I haven't loved it. Not sure if I need to try again.

Love a good old fashioned round up! *immediately buys a disposable camera* Those photos are so fun!! My sleep MVP is a weighted blanket, even in the summer. I lay down under it and feel like it immediately calms me?! I'm sure you've already tried that but figured it was worth mentioning!

Expand full comment

Have slept with a weighted blanket every night since 2020. Solidarity. Even in the summer!

If you DO buy a disposable camera, use the flash. Like, for every shot. I need to try again! Half of my pictures were almost black 🫠

Finally got the Meme game, thanks for the reminder!! 😉

Our kids are spaced exactly the same way, all three of them! Not feeling sad about them moving on to the next grades, but I have caught myself marveling at how tall they all are.

Yeah Everett's gonna outgrow me in the next 1-2 years, I am almost positive!

Summer has dashed by here too and not looked back once. I stared at the backpack photos on the website for a while but I really do have one that is fine 😂

Hey, I am such a big champion of using what you have ;) I did not have one!

The biggest difference in summer vs all the other months of the year here on Oahu is in what we eat; while it's true that I don't have full-throttle spring, fall, and winter like back home in Minnesota, I do have the full calendar of food cravings that just simply has not disappeared. So, when it's summer here, I want

-the organic freeze pops from Costco (these are just juice and don't have dyes),

-lots of salads, an inate desire to bake a pie or crisp (yep, stone fruit and berries are imported!),

-pipette mineral sunscreen (the best I've ever used, natural or not),

- Tillamook ice cream (this summer was peaches and cream!)

And also enjoyed:

-contacts - for the first time in 5+ years - and therefore:

-aviator sunglasses

-plumerias

-evening walks

-long drives to lesser known spots (it's tourist season)

-saying good farewells and hearty "alohas" (#armylife)

-VBS and allllllll the appointments

-book club

That's it!

This is a lovely list ✨😉 Yay for contacts!

Jet lag trumps all these supplements, and a hotel bed (or any other bed) just isn't your bed. I just know that from experience.

Sometimes you can find Mary Ruth's Nighttime Multimineral in a travel size, and that stuff really helps! Also, if you do the same stuff mentally/spiritually before you go to bed, it really helps. I imagine you do, though!!

Expand full comment

Yes I have a whole high-maintenance regimen 😜 Will look up that supplement though, never heard of it!
